dear weekend, please come quickly, I need you!

Happy Wednesday suckers! Who's ready for the weekend? I simply neeeed it to happen right now. Oh and yes, here's what I'm loving this week... #1 is probably my favourite, it can be converted into multiple styles... hooray for versatility!

Looking Back: Vancouver

Another few snapshots from my trip back in 2010. I had 2 nights (definitely not enough) in Vancouver while the Winter Olympics were on. It was really so flippin great! The vibe of the place was just wonderful, and the sky was so blue! I really wouldn't hesitate in going back and spending at least two weeks just exploring the city.

Although, sadly, the little mind trip I just took while flipping through all the photos I had taken, will have to do for now!

That last one is a particular favourite... It's Willy! And he's smoothing out the ice! (or whatever it is those machines do...)

Sunday Sounds: Kaiser Chiefs + COOKIES!

Currently can't get this Kaiser Chiefs song out of my head, so I felt it totally necessary to share. It's off their 2011 album, which I really reckon is worth a look in. Totally enjoyable listening, and it just makes you realise how cool these dudes are, and that you definitely need to party with them one day... After seeing them perform at Groovin the Moo the other weekend, I'm definitely loving them just a bit more. Seriously, only super awesome people can perform while riding a sling shot!

OH, and I made cookies tonight too. Check them out, totally a completely awkward mix of different sweet things, but I think it works. I followed this recipe and just added my own bits... that is, white choc chips, crunchy nut cornflakes, rice krispies, pistachios and bits of chocolate coated honeycomb. Yep, they're basically pure sugar.

I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend! We were blessed again with pretty perfect weather up here in Brisbane, it was completely lovely. It's a pity about the whole Monday thing though...

up the mighty banana-landers!

Only those from Queensland will know what I'm on about this week. But what better way to celebrate a victory than to wish for a few things directly related to our State of Origin team colour? And to be honest, it really is a totally awesome colour for winter - I know Olivia Palermo (being the fashionable lass that she is) loves to splash it around every now and then :)

1. Vintage Ruby Glass Cups 2. ASOS Boucle Remix Denim Shell Top 3. Mini Banana Slice Earrings 4. Maroon Leather Jazz Flats 5. 80's Floral Maroon Scarf

I'm going cushion crazy!

Well, that could be exaggerating just a little bit... I probably should have titled this post, "I'm currently on the lookout for some new cushions, but not actually buying any because there are so many awesome ones and I can't make up my mind!" (I think you can probably see why I edited that though...)

Moooving on. Take a look at some of these little gems I found (#3 is a particular favourite). Seriously, Etsy is SUCH a goldmine!

Sunday Sounds: The Maccabees

Short and sweet this week: I got me some serious ponderings going on (more to come later), so my brain can only fit in this quick video. Groovin the Moo last weekend opened up my ears to the wonderful Maccabees. Their new album is freakin great - take a look at one of my favourites below!

some black leather love

Here's what I'm wishing for this Wednesday, besides winning my fortune... I hope you've all had a better day than I have! Bring on the weekend already!

finally: a diy neon necklace adventure

In the words of The Cat Empire, 'Hello! Hello!'
I'm sharing tonight my latest little DIY adventure... which I originally planned on doing way back in February (talk about a procrastination champion) - but only got around to doing last Thursday night!

Inspired initially by this post, and motivated by my upcoming attendance at the Groovin the Moo festival (which explains my lack of posts over the last few days!)... I finally pulled my finger out, bought a necklace from Diva, some spray paint from Bunnings, gathered some masking tape, old newspapers, and set to work.

A word of warning: make sure your spray paints are compatible. It seems my undercoat was just a tad too glossy for the colour I picked to use, and I initially got that 'crackle' effect that has been all the rage in nailpolish lately... which was not the look I was going for!

...so because I wanted to keep the chain naked, and I couldn't remove the 'spikes' from the chain, I covered it in masking tape to protect it from the paint, which was fiddly, but definitely made a difference in the end!

My next step was to cover the ends of each spike with masking tape to keep some of the 'golden' part showing. Don't ask me why I did this - my only logic was that I thought it could possibly look a bit interesting...
Then the only remaining step was to (at roughly 10 minute intervals) over the next few hours, spray the necklace with the undercoat and then top coat. And as suggested by the lovely Geneva, multiple light coats work best :)

And voila! At roughly 11.30pm I had myself some festival-worthy neon fun! And below is the necklace in action!

I do apologise for the crappy iPhone shots, but hopefully that gives you the idea of the final result!
And if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know - oh, and if you do get the urge to have a go yourself, let me know, I'd love to see what you come up with!

Local Love: Archella

So here we are again, the middle of the week... how's it travelling so far? Anyone in love with Brisbane's weather at the moment?! It's beyond beautiful. The long weekend was just awesome.
Funnily enough, it is quite nice to be reminded every now and then why Australia isn't half bad - it really does help with my London withdrawals!

Aaanyway, amazing weather aside, I'm here tonight to bring back the Local Love! And what a return it is! For your perusing pleasure this eve, I have a few words from the ever talented and big time etsy favourite Rachael Elizabeth. She is the brains and braun behind the up and coming Brisbane fashion label, Archella.
(psst... stay tuned for a DAISY SEE exclusive following the interview!)

Rachael's pieces show such promise in their whimsical and feminine simplicity, I really don't think I can gush enough... I love it all! And thankfully... she even had some time to answer my questions :)

What inspires you to create?
Often I am inspired by music. I might hear a song that I like and will come up with a whole collection inspired by the 'mood' and meaning behind the song. Aside from that, all sorts of things! I can be inspired by a fabric I find, or something I see on the street or in nature. Its kind of like many things coming together at once.

How did Archella come about?
I have worked a fair bit in the fashion industry for others, but I really just wanted to do something for myself and to be creative, thus Archella was born!

Apart from Archella - what do you like to do with your time?
Archella IS what I do with my spare time! Otherwise, I spend all of my spare time with my family. I have a little boy - so I like to spend as much time as possible with him. Oh and I watch a lot of TV :/

Where do you think you would like to be in a few years?
I'm not sure about a few years, i'm pretty happy with keeping things small for now. But maybe one day I will open a little store and sell Archella through that. We could have sewing classes and parties there too! Would you like to come? (YES PLEASE!)

Where is your favourite spot in Brisbane?
I really like Roma Street Park Lands. I like the lovely little cafe there, and its not too busy. Its a lovely place for children as well.

What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
Going on a cruise with my sister, my birthday, Oh and expanding Archella's online presence!

Speaking of - be sure to like Archella to keep up to date with the latest collections and news.

Aaanndd now, thanks to the lovely Rachael, I am able to offer you - my DAISY SEE posse - a super awesome, one week only, 10% discount in the Archella store! All you need to do is type 'Dreamer' into the 'Apply Shop Coupon Code' link located under the PayPal button :)

Keeping it brief today ladies and gents... this is largely due to the fact that life at the moment is just a tad inconsistent and I am slightly preoccupied with the rebirth of Local Love (after a short absence). So please do stay tuned for the comeback tonight!

1. ASOS Talent Scout Mid-Heels 2. ASOS SALON Kaftan Dress 3. Classic Havana, Super People Sunglasses 4. Floris Gladiator Sandals by Sigerson Morrison via Madewell 5. Ranunculus Bowls

ps: keep your eyes out for a little DAISYSEE only surprise later this eve!

Happy Wednesday!

a long weekend

...means no proper posts for at least three days suckers! I hope you all have a great one!

BARK

It's just a little bit of play time for me this Thursday night. My future local love's have been rather busy and consequently the feature has become just a little less regular than expected... so to fill the gap, and to do something just a teeny bit creative, I played around in the 'ol adobe suite this eve.
This was the result. Not sure what it is really, but I reckon it could be a kind of ok-ish abstract print? Who knows... all I do know is that tomorrow is Friday and then it's a long weekend. Bring it!

Bags and Boots!

It looks like it's all about boots and bags this week! And THAT pillow case. Seriously, have you seen anything this great recently!?! It would go perfectly on my soon to be organised/revamped day bed...
On a side note, I've lusted after docs for a while, if only for their durability, but I'm still not sure if I've got the guts to pull them off... I feel like the shoes are probably much tougher than me!

1. OK Pillow Case  2. Cobalt Suede Fringe Bag 3. Gingham Picnic Skirt  4. Patchwork It, Girl Backpack 5. Dr. Martens 1460 Broken-In Boot
